World War II started in 1938 and ended in 1945. To date, more deaths occurred during this conflict than any other war on record. The U.S. officially entered the war with the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, which killed over 2,000 people and brought havoc to Pacific military battleships and fleet.

Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was one of the longest and most controversial wars fought by the U.S. military. The war began in 1957 and ended in 1975. The goal was to help South Vietnam prevent the spread of communism coming from the North Vietnamese. The U.S. involvement was intended to be minimal, but we continued to send troops as the war dragged on. Many U.S. soldiers who served in Vietnam lost their lives or suffered long-term effects such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and illnesses due to exposure to Agent Orange. Unlike troops of other wars, Vietnam Veterans were treated disrespectfully and not given the tribute they rightfully deserved.

Iraq War and Afghanistan

On March 20, 2003, the U.S. launched the Iraq War because of concerns of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons that could pose a threat to the U.S. It is best known for the fall of the brutal reign of Saddam Hussein and his forced removal from power by U.S. forces.

Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., the U.S. increased military forces against the Taliban in Afghanistan. The mission was to weaken and destroy the power of Osama Bin Laden, who was a lead terrorist threat.
