Staff Sergeant DeHesus began his military service at Ft. Sheridan, IL in January of 1941. His next tour of duty was at Ft. Reilly, Kansas where he spent two years as Mess Sergeant. He was then shipped to Ft. Custer, Michigan following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Next were tours at Camp Muskogee and Ft. Lewis, Washington. He then was deployed to the Pacific, landing at the Island of Luzon, Philippines, where he was a Mess and Supply Sergeant for the 90th Field Hospital in the Isle of Mindanao. Following General McArthur’s return to the Pacific and President Roosevelt’s announcement that World War II was over, Sergeant DeHesus was deployed back to the US and discharged on December 24th, 1945 at Ft. Leavenworth, KA. He resumed his residence in Wauconda, IL where he served as Commander of the American Legion Post 911 from 1955-1956, and where he has been a lifetime member for over sixty years.
