About the Veterans Tribute Website

Veterans are the core of our country’s freedom and organizations such as the Veterans History Project and Honor flight are making every effort to capture their stories and honor their accomplishments. The Veterans History Project provides a mechanism to document first-hand veteran accounts of their war experiences and makes them accessible to the general public through the Library of Congress. The project provides all war serving veterans a way to tell their story so we may better understand the realities of war. Each veteran provides a 30 minute video interview that is sent to the Library of Congress for release, either in hardcopy or on-line. Processing can take 6-9 months depending on the volume of videos submitted.

The goal of this website is to pay tribute to each veteran who shared or will share their war stories with me by providing immediate access to their personal interviews for the Veterans History Project. This website provides researchers of all ages, the untold stories and lessons that are especially vital for today’s youth such as myself considering military service.

Additionally, this website provides a forum for sharing photos and video highlights of WWII veterans who have taken an Honor Flight tour of Washington, DC. This Tour of Honor allowed each veteran to personally view their war's memorial and to reflect on their contributions to our country.

As the interviewer, I met with veterans from different war backgrounds. I heard the good, bad and the ugly. It made military service and wars “real” to me and made me think long and hard if I could make the same commitment to my country as these veterans. I found myself looking at war from their eyes and it forced me into the reality of war. These veterans taught me the true definition of courage and commitment. If military service is the path for me, I will have made this choice with a clearer vision, greater understanding and deeper appreciation of what could lie ahead for me, both good and bad, because of these American heroes.
