CPO Roberti joined the Navy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Communications Leading Chief Petty Officer. He was assigned to the Provincial Reconstruction Team that assessed the local area infrastructure for reconstruction or development of roads, schools, warehouses, and the like that were otherwise damaged or destroyed from many years of fighting. As the Communications Leading Chief; he expertly managed his unit’s communications, targeting, and response to incoming mortar and rocket attacks. Additionally, CPO Roberti had a partial role as a PPO (Project Payment Officer) where he worked directly with the local Afghan contractors and authorities, drawing up contracts, and managing all payments for reconstruction and building occurring in the neighboring villages. He is most proud of the relationships he established with his team, the local authorities, and allied officers. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Navy Combat Action Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon, and the NATO-ISAF medal.
