SGT Cook enlisted in the Army when he was nineteen years old and was the first of two brothers in the Iraq War. He first served in Mosul as a Vehicle Commander, patrolling cities for suspicious activity. While moving from Mosul to Baghdad his unit accomplished something that had never been done before. While in a movement transition, his unit seized and held a city for three days before continuing the movement to Baghdad. He later was assigned to Iraq with the Quick Reaction Force. SGT Cook was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries suffered when his truck rolled over a detonation site. The explosion damaged SGT Cook's vehicle, injuring him. He was rushed to safety, and underwent amputation of his lower left leg. Today SGT Cook is a vital member of the community, participates in many sports, and runs a valet parking service for veterans at the local VA Hospital. He says that his military service was an experience of a lifetime and he would do it all again.
